Susan Platt is the only democratic woman to run for statewide office in 2017. She is running for Lieutenant Governor in Virginia, a state typically favorable to Republicans. If she were to win the election, she would become the first woman to serve as Lieutenant Governor in the commonwealth’s 228-year history.
Like Hillary Clinton in 2008 and 2016, Platt is a female trailblazer looking to make history in this election. Platt, who proudly sports photographs of herself posed with former president Bill Clinton on her campaign website, is a strong progressive Democrat who promises to breathe some fresh air into the state and offer much-needed female leadership in the executive branch of state (and federal) government. She formerly served as Joe Biden’s chief of staff. Virginia’s gubernatorial election is November 7, 2017.
You can learn more about her at her campaign website. Or you can donate directly to her campaign through ActBlue. Platt announced her candidacy in a delightfully Hillary Clinton-esque video released to YouTube on January 31, 2017.
