BREAKING: Russia intervened in 2016 election, CIA concludes

Alex Mohajer

Adding to our Huffington Post article “Why Hillary Lost: The Great American Lie,” Every major news media outlet in the country is reporting breaking news tonight on a CIA assessment that concludes that Russia intervened in the 2016 presidential election, specifically to help Donald Trump win.

Washington Post first broke the story, which is a bombshell. Among other things it reveals that Mitch McConnell and President Obama were aware of the report from the CIA back in September, but that McConnell squashed it.

From WaPo:

The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system, according to officials briefed on the matter.

Intelligence agencies have identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, according to U.S. officials. Those officials described the individuals as actors known to the intelligence community and part of a wider Russian operation to boost Trump and hurt Clinton’s chances.

“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators. “That’s the consensus view.”

The Obama administration has been debating for months how to respond to the alleged Russian intrusions, with White House officials concerned about escalating tensions with Moscow and being accused of trying to boost Clinton’s campaign.

MSNBC’S Lawrence O’Donnell reported live on air earlier this evening. WATCH:

I’M with Hillary Clinton. How much more obvious can it get? All the hacking of the Democratic email servers but not any republican’s??? Donald Trump himself yelled and screamed that the election is rigged. Of course it was. I believe that we should have another election. Get rid of the electoral college. The people have spoken…the American people voted for Hillary. Donald Trump will not be my president.

I agree. I doubt you have to get rid of the Electoral College. They will speak for themselves. A dishonest election in a real Democracy is now obvious. Time for Democrats to act.
